History & Impact​

The community home build program has been building homes for families or individuals since 1993. In 2026 we completed our 44th build. Recipients are selected through an application process and must own the property for a potential build. A committee from the board of directors at Henderson Settlement views all applications and determines the recipient each build year. 

Almost all recipients have been displaced due to a home burning or being in such poor condition that repairs are not a realistic option. To have a new home after being displaced or living in an unsafe structure is life changing. Recipients must own the property and are responsible for the electrical connection, plumbing connections and the septic system. There is no mortgage payment but Henderson Settlement holds a lien against the sale of the home for 10 years to protect the investment made by volunteers and donors. 
Our first home build was for an elderly lady living in a home that was collapsing around her and our most recent build was for a family of five struggling to find a place to call home. Thanks to you and God we are partners in this life changing program. 

Participate & Support

Most home builds cover a six week span, two weeks each in May July and August, but we have done a shorter span at times. Individuals or groups can choose to participate in a single week or multiple weeks. If choosing a single week then the cost to do so is the standard Work Camp rate but if doing multiple week's, the price can be less per week. Support is critical for us to continue providing a home to a deserving family or individual. Current materials costs are $65000-$70000 per home build. Direct donations can be made on this web page under the "Donations and Payments" tab at the top of page or sent to us through mail or other means. Donations can be of any size and make a tremendous difference in this effort. Other ways to support are to adopt "buying" a piece of the house. For example covering the costs of vinyl siding or windows or flooring or roofing, etc. Donations of time and skill are also needed in the six weeks of the build. If you are a skilled plumber or electrician that alone can save us thousands of dollars. Most importantly praying for God to direct us as we move forward and for the hearts of His servants to hear His call.
