Family Emergencies

History & Impact

Henderson Settlement was established in an Appalachian community where the isolation directly impacts opportunity - both educationally and vocationally. Life can be difficult even when things are going right. So when things go wrong it’s really hard to get back on one’s feet and start over again.

Sometimes a local home will burn down and the family loses everything they own. When this happen our Thrift Store is one of the first responders. We make sure the family has shoes, clothes, jackets, pillows, blankets and food to get through the immediate aftermath of an unexpected emergency. Our Work Camp, Utility Assistance, Food Pantry and Child Care Programs then come together to provide additional assistance and relief to these families.

Participate & Support

Everything in the Thrift Store is donated and physically delivered to us by the legion of dedicated volunteers who have supported us over the years. Without this consistent, tireless outpouring of feet-on-the-ground effort and love we would not be able to maintain this critical community support program.

You can participate and support this program by sharing our story with your church, workplace, family and friends, reviewing our Needs List and Amazon Wish List, collecting/delivering good quality items, volunteering to help sort/stock items and donating directly to the Thrift Store or to the general budget,

BE THERE WITH US IN 2026!!!
