In the fall of 1932 - Mossie Murray, Wayland Jones and Ethel Bowlin became the first Henderson Settlement High School graduates to attend college. This was only seven years after Bertha Riel turned a one-room log cabin into a classroom for the first 13 students of the settlement’s newly established school.
Education has continued to be a priority for us. Our scholarship program enables community youth to pursue their dreams of continued education: trade schools, associate degree, bachelors, degrees and graduate programs.
Over the years many of our college graduates have come back home and worked here to improve lives. Others pursue careers elsewhere but remain deeply connected to their Frakes family & friends.
Participate & Support
Our scholarship program is 100% funded by donations. You can participate through one-time donations, scheduled annual donations or setting up an endowment.
Henderson Settlement holds these funds until awarded to individuals enrolled in accredited schools. The students must live in our service area and maintain a 3.0 GPA. Henderson Settlement mails the scholarship checks directly to the schools.
All of our programs work together to help build a strong, healthy community. Seeing our local youth follow their dreams and head off to trade schools, colleges and post-grad programs is awesome!!!
