Outreach Community Christmas Party
On the first Saturday of December, we have a Community Christmas party for all of the kids and their families in our service area. The party is put on by the staff and volunteers each year. The kids in our after-school program work hard on a Christmas play and it was the highlight of the day. Santa comes and gives out age appropriate gifts, hugs, and stockings. There is also a community dinner prepared by the kitchen staff. The following week, our clients with children are invited back to select two presents for each of their children. They pay a set fee per child. By buying the gifts for their children parents can have a sense of pride and ownership when giving the gifts. During this time the parents may also get a blanket and personal supply box, if the items are donated to do so. Christmas Food Boxes The Christmas food boxes are a special blessing for the families that can't afford a traditional holiday meal. The Settlement gives up to 350 boxes each Christmas season. Many things that are taken for granted like pumpkin pie, cranberry sauce, or ham. The Christmas box includes enough food to prepare a complete holiday meal. With the generosity of churches and individuals that support this ministry, it makes it possible for us to help many families during the holiday season. |
