Work Camp / Volunteers in Mission
Work Camp serves two purposes at Henderson Settlement. First, and primarily, it serves as an opportunity to educate persons in mission and the needs that exist among the less fortunate in our society. Secondly, work camp often serves as the bridge between dreams and reality for families of the Laurel Fork Valley of southeastern Kentucky and northern Tennessee, while giving groups the opportunity to witness for Christ through home repair. The Frakes campus is open year around.

Work teams are able to adopt a home repair project(s) and raise the money for the project(s),  projects adopted should be within their team’s means. The project(s) a team selects should be equal to the skill level of the team leader's.

The cost per person for Work Camp is as follows:
  •  $275 per week per person to stay in the Mission Dorm
  •  $350 per week per person to stay in Private Housing

Work Camp at Frakes
The Frakes work camp has its base of operations at the original site where Hiram Frakes began Henderson Settlement. Although the Settlement has been able to provide many services to the community, there is still a great deal of need. We are excited that you're considering coming and helping in this very valuable ministry!

If you are interested in bringing a mission team to the Frakes Site. You will find documents and information that you'll need to be ready for your visit to Henderson Settlement. We ask that you start with the checklist, and that will guide you through the steps that you need to take to prepare for and organize your trip.

Work Camp at the White Oak Center
In the 1990s, requests for assistance increased in the area around White Oak, Tennessee, because this community has challenges similar to those in the Frakes community. Teams working on homes in the area were at a disadvantage having to travel seventeen miles back to the Settlement for food and lodging.

The White Oak Center opened in the summer of 2001, and since then, during the summer months, many teams have been based out of this facility. Up to 48 people can be housed and fed. Work teams are scheduled through the Work Camp Office at Henderson Settlement, and a project manager is on site at White Oak to assist the teams during working hours. Click here to take a Virtual Tour of White Oak.
