This group consists of women from age 20 to 60+, they meet once each week to provide fellowship and encouragement. Some of these ladies have young children that they bring with them to the group others are part of the seniors and enjoy the extra enrichment. Some have a stressful home situation and need the companionship of the group. The older ladies are very encouraging to the young girls and the conversations they have are very empowering. The ladies share ways to become better shoppers, and how to better spend and save money at the grocery store.
Women's group takes at least one trip a year, when they have the money to do so. They go to places such as Cumberland Falls, the Mountain Laurel Festival and other such places. Part of what funds their trips and other activities is the crafts they make and sell in the Craft Shop. They are able to make these crafts solely on donations of craft supplies. They make jewelry, knitted and crocheted items. When women's group has the supplies they also make themed wreaths, and are always looking for new material to try new things. There is, however, one activity that brings the lady's great satisfaction. Ice cream making. All through the week they make homemade ice cream. Once a week, after supper, they offer it to work campers and community members for donations. They make several flavors and offer toppings as well. For more information call 606.337.3613 Ext. 307 |
