In November of 2019, the Settlement Leadership Team made the decision to include the Frakes Community Park renovation as one of our three on-campus priority projects highlighted for our 2020 Work Camp season. As part of this effort, we conducted a community survey process to record the interests of our community members regarding current and future needs. Community input focused on improvement or addition of sturdy playground equipment, the Basketball Court, a Volleyball Court, a splash pad, a fire pit, and new picnic tables. The Settlement Leadership Team and Board of Directors have expanded this vision to include at least some of the following project scope blocks: 
Community Park Scope Blocks  

• Clean, attractive, and easy to maintain restroom facilities with scheduled auto-lock capabilities 
• Security considerations to prevent property vandalism 
• Adequate and attractive lighting to enhance use and promote safety and security 
• Water fountains at appropriate locations 
• Refreshed or new swings, playground feature, and play area (toddler target age & separate 6-10 year target age) 
• A Splash pad water feature  Retain and enhance the walking path and exercise course (lighting and exercise stations) 
• Completely refurbish the basketball court, with adequate netting to keep balls in the court. Make drinking water available at the court. 
• Add a fire-pit or fireplace conversation/gathering area, with adequate seating options to support Work Camp use of the feature 
• Add a projection screen and audio system option capable to support outdoor worship services and movie events 
• Consider music options for areas where this might be appropriate 
• Retain the pavilion building, including power, lighting and serving facilities that will enhance its use for community family and group gatherings (consider installation of ceiling fans and/or misters 
• Consider addition of WIFI coverage with timed access and youth controls 
• Fence the back side of the property with an attractive fencing option  Increase parking capacity for the facility 
• Create an attractive and lighted signage for the Community Park 
• Consider Frakes and Settlement history displays at appropriate locations (the “Did you know?” kind of stuff) ​

We are extremely excited to finalize our project scope, to lay out the proposed new facility and to get started with the work. Our dream is that this facility renewal will expand its role as a hub of community family and Settlement volunteer activity. We will update you on our next steps very soon!
